What Now?

To be born again means a new beginning, a brand new person.

Learn who you are in Christ: His power in me!

The first step after making a commitment to Jesus is water baptism.  Jesus wants us to be baptized in water and in the Holy Spirit just as He was in the Jordan River. Through this baptism we are empowered to fulfill our ministry or service to Jesus just as He was empowered to fulfill His. Water baptism communicates that the person being baptized is a Christian that identifies with Jesus’ death, burial and resurrection (Romans 6:3-4). It signifies the burial of the old nature, our old way, and declares our decision to live for God. It is an outward sign of an inward change. It is an action that shows the commitment made in our heart.

God’s gift to us is Jesus and Jesus’ gift to us is the Holy Spirit.

Jesus commissioned His disciples to be witnesses throughout the world.  He knew they would face persecution, hardship, and imprisonment. The disciples would need power to help them preach, teach and live for God in the midst of those trials. They would need courage to keep from being silenced or intimidated by the threat of being put to death.

The last command Jesus gave His disciples was to wait in Jerusalem for the fulfillment of what the Father had promised -  the Holy Spirit  (Luke 24:49). On the day of Pentecost that promise was fulfilled. Suddenly, the disciples were empowered and filled with the Holy Spirit. They were transformed and ready to go to the remotest parts of the world with the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

The same power Jesus gave His disciples is available for you (Romans 8:11).  It was not reserved just for the early church. This Holy Spirit baptism gives you the power to live holy. It gives you power to be a bold witness. Power to prove the resurrection of Jesus and that He lives today. Heals today. Forgives today and delivers today. You may be timid or shy, but the Holy Spirit will give you boldness and courage. It makes you an over-comer. When you are baptized in the Holy Spirit a supernatural manifestation comes upon you – you are able to speak in another language. “And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost and began to speak in other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.” Acts 2:4.  When you pray in tongues, you are praying “in the spirit”. It is not your mind, but your spirit (1 Cor 14:14). It is a heavenly language that no one except the Holy Spirit knows what is being spoken (1 Cor 14:2).

Here is a prayer to receive the infilling of the Holy Spirit:

Father, I believe with all my heart that Jesus has been raised from the dead and I have confessed Him as my Lord and Savior. Your Word says that if I ask I will receive the Holy Spirit. I ask You now in the Name of Jesus to fill me to overflowing with Your precious Holy Spirit.  As I yield myself, I ask you Holy Spirit to rise up within me as I praise my Heavenly Father. I fully expect to speak with other tongues as You give me utterance.

Now begin to thank and praise God for baptizing you in the Holy Spirit. As you do this, the heavenly language promised you will begin to stir up within your spirit. Just begin to speak the syllables that come to you. You are a born-again spirit filled believer.  Praise the Lord!

The Word of God, the Bible, is the source of your faith. It is the spiritual food you need. It is your power. Allow the Holy Spirit to make the Word a reality in your heart. Meditate, pray and believe so you can walk in what is written.

Surround yourself with a body of believers.  Allow the Holy Spirit to lead you to a church where the Word of God is preached and not compromised. God’s desire is for you to grow spiritually so you can walk in His ways, know His Word and know how to hear His voice. We are commanded by God in Hebrews 10:25: “not forsaking our own assembling together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more, as you see the day drawing near.”  It is the only way to fulfill your divine potential. It is the Lord’s way for you to understand and fulfill your divine purpose.

Your calling is revealed in church, and you are developed by your leadership and by the Word to walk in it.  In church you receive prayer, teaching, and counseling. You receive instruction and wisdom to make you complete (Colossians 1:28).

Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ, who gave Himself for our sins so that He might rescue us from this present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father, to whom be glory forevermore. Amen. (Gal 1:3-5)

And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose. (Rom 8:28)

What shall we say about such wonderful things as these? If God is for us, who can ever be against us?
Since he did not spare even his own Son but gave him up for us all, won't he also give us everything else? (Rom 8:31-32 NLT)
